Trainers' Manual and toolkit on Newspaper theater method

About the Manual

The Trainers’ Manual and Toolkit on the Newspaper Theatre Method is one of the key intellectual outputs of the ECO4ECO – ECO-leaders for Eco-friendly Communities project, co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union.

Developed collaboratively by youth and environmental education experts from Lithuania, Finland, Greece, Georgia, and Croatia, the manual equips trainers, educators, and youth workers with creative and practical tools to inspire young people to take action for sustainability and social change.

What Is Newspaper Theatre?

The Newspaper Theatre method, inspired by the work of Augusto Boal and his Theatre of the Oppressed, transforms real social or environmental news into short performances.
It invites participants to analyze, re-enact, and reinterpret real-world issues, empowering them to think critically, raise awareness, and propose solutions through art and collaboration.

In the ECO4ECO context, this method becomes a powerful educational tool for:

  • Promoting eco-awareness and environmental responsibility

  • Strengthening leadership and communication skills among youth

  • Encouraging community dialogue on sustainability and inclusion

  • Linking emotional intelligence with environmental action.
