Newspaper Theatre Training: When Words Become Action

The ECo4Eco project empowers communities through creativity and critical thinking.

From April 7–9, an international Newspaper Theatre training took place, bringing together 14 instructors from Lithuania , Greece , Georgia , Croatia , and Finland . Participants explored this unique method that combines theatre, media, and civic engagement.

 What is Newspaper Theatre?

Based on Augusto Boal’s Forum Theatre techniques, Newspaper Theatre is a creative way to analyze social issues and invites the audience not just to watch, but to act—literally stepping into the performance. In this case, using news articles, headlines, and current events as inspiration.

 During the training, participants:

  • explored theatrical methods,

  • analyzed ecological and social topics,

  • created interactive scenarios,

  • and discussed how to apply these methods in work with communities, young people, and schools.

This autumn, local training sessions will take place in all partner countries, where the knowledge gained will be shared with an even broader audience—from teachers to youth leaders, from community activists to NGO representatives.

The goal? To empower people to think critically, take action, and create change—creatively and responsibly.
